How it works

How university admissions work in Pakistan

The same four steps apply to almost every university. Dates and rules differ, so always confirm on the official notice.

1

When admissions open

Most universities have a Fall intake (classes around August to October) and many have a Spring intake (around January to March). Applications open a few months earlier. MBBS and BDS follow the MDCAT result.

2

How to apply

Register on the university's portal, fill in your marks, upload documents, pay the fee and book the entry test. Many accept FSc Part-I marks while Part-II results are awaited.

3

Documents you'll need

Matric and FSc result cards, CNIC or B-Form, photographs and your test result. O and A Level students need IBCC equivalence; some public universities ask for a domicile.

4

Entry test and merit list

Your aggregate combines test, FSc and Matric marks. Merit lists rank applicants; accept and pay by the deadline to keep your seat. Calculate your aggregate.

Questions

Admissions in Pakistan: frequently asked questions

When do university admissions open in Pakistan?

Most universities take students in a Fall intake, with classes starting around August to October, and many also run a smaller Spring intake that starts around January to March. Applications open a few months before classes. Medical (MBBS and BDS) admissions run separately, after the MDCAT result. The list on this page shows every open and upcoming date we track, with its official notice.

What is the last date for admission this year?

Each university and programme has its own last date. The next deadline on our list is Liaquat Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Thatta (LIMHS Thatta Undergraduate Application Deadline) on 20 October 2026. Use the "Closing in 7 days" filter to see every deadline coming up this week.

When are entry test dates for 2026-27?

The next entry test on our list is Bahria Karachi DPT Computer-Based Entrance Test (BUET) (Bahria University) on 24 October 2026. Each university sets its own test dates, and some, such as NUST, hold several test series a year. The "Entry tests" filter lists every upcoming test with its official schedule.

How do I apply for university admission online?

Create an account on the university's admission portal, fill in your academic details, upload the documents it asks for, pay the application fee and register for its entry test if it has one. Every date on this page links to the official notice, which links to the portal.

Which documents are required for university admission?

Usually your Matric and FSc (or equivalent) result cards or certificates, CNIC or B-Form, recent photographs and your entry test result. O and A Level students need IBCC equivalence, and some public universities ask for a domicile for quota seats. Each university lists its own requirements in its admission notice.

Can I apply before my FSc Part-II result?

Many universities, including FAST, NUST and COMSATS, accept FSc Part-I marks while Part-II results are awaited, and confirm admission once the final result arrives. Our calculators have a Part-I option for those universities.

Can O and A Level students apply to Pakistani universities?

Yes. You need IBCC equivalence, which converts your grades into Matric and FSc marks. If your A Level results are not out yet, some universities let you apply on your O Level equivalence. Use the IBCC equivalence calculator to estimate your marks.

Which universities give admission without an entry test?

Some programmes admit students on academic marks alone, and many universities accept a national test such as NTS NAT or SAT instead of their own test. Rules differ by university and programme, so check the eligibility section of each university's admission notice.

What is a merit list and when is it announced?

A merit list ranks applicants by aggregate for each programme. Universities usually publish several lists (first, second and so on) as seats fill, and you must accept the offer and pay the fee by the stated date to keep your seat. Merit list dates appear in the list above with the "Merit lists" filter.
