IBCC Equivalence Calculator for O and A Levels

Turn O-Level and A-Level grades into Matric (SSC) marks out of 900 and FSc (HSSC) marks out of 1100 with IBCC's own grade values, then carry the percentage into a merit calculator.

Where did you sit your exams?

O-Level / IGCSE grades

Compulsory subjects first, then your 3 electives. For a Science group at Matric level, pick Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Computer Science.

How IBCC converts O and A Level grades into marks

IBCC (Inter Boards Coordination Commission) gives every grade a fixed number of Pakistani marks out of 100: A 85, B 75, C 65, D 55 and E 45. Only A* (or 9) changes with the subject and exam year. IBCC adds the marks for the subjects that count and scales the total to Matric or FSc marks.

O-Level to Matric (SSC)

SSC marks = (sum of O-Level marks ÷ total) × 900

  • Sat in Pakistan: 8 subjects (English, Mathematics, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies and 3 electives), out of 800.
  • Sat abroad, or foreign / dual national: 5 subjects (English, Mathematics and 3 electives), out of 500.
  • Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Computer Science) give a Science group; other electives give General (Arts).

A-Level to FSc (HSSC)

HSSC marks = (O-Level marks + 3 A-Level marks) ÷ total × 1100

  • Your O-Level subjects plus 3 full A-Levels of your group: Pre-Medical (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Pre-Engineering (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) or Computer Science (Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics).
  • With 8 O-Levels and 3 A-Levels the total is already out of 1100.
  • O-Levels from 2026 onwards: only the compulsory O-Levels count for the science groups (see the 2026 rule below).

How to use the calculator

  • Pick O-Level to Matric or A-Level to FSc, and where you sat your exams.
  • Choose your exam sessions. A* values change each year, so the right session matters.
  • Pick a grade for every subject. Letter grades and 9 to 1 grades can be mixed.
  • Copy the result into the NUST, FAST, COMSATS or MDCAT calculator with the buttons under the result.

The 2026 rule: O-Level electives no longer count for FSc equivalence

On 17 February 2026, IBCC notified that HSSC equivalence for the Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering and Computer Science groups will use only the compulsory O-Level subjects (English, Mathematics, Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies) and the core A-Level sciences. O-Level electives are left out. Foreign and dual nationals stay exempt from Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies.

It applies to students who complete O-Levels in session 2026 and their A-Levels after that. If your O-Levels were in 2025 or earlier, the old rule (all 8 O-Levels plus 3 A-Levels) still applies.

IBCC hasn't published a worked example for the new rule yet. The calculator scales the counted subjects to 1100, the way IBCC scales results for students who sat abroad. Confirm your figure with IBCC (051-111-114-222) before relying on it for a close merit decision.

Using your IBCC equivalence for university admission

Universities use the percentage from your equivalence, so the 900 or 1100 total doesn't change your aggregate. A few rules to know:

  • Students still in the A-Level final year are usually counted on their O-Level equivalence: NUST gives it 25%, and FAST and COMSATS use it for the FSc share.
  • UET counts the O-Level equivalence at 67% for O and A-Level applicants.
  • Medical colleges need Biology and Chemistry with at least 60% in the equivalence.
  • NUST warns applicants to enter the marks on the IBCC certificate, not self-calculated marks.

How to apply for IBCC equivalence

  1. Create an account on the IBCC online equivalence portal and fill in your O or A Level details.
  2. Upload your result statements or certificates and pay the fee: Rs 6,000 per foreign qualification, or Rs 12,000 for an urgent O or A Level case.
  3. Submit online, by courier or at an IBCC office. Normal processing takes 15 to 20 working days.
  4. A Statement of Result is valid for six months. After that IBCC needs your original certificate.

Get your equivalence right before you apply

Your IBCC marks feed straight into every university aggregate, so a small error can change your merit.

1. Pick the right session

A* is worth 93 to 95 depending on subject and year. Use the session on your result.

2. Check the 2026 rule

From O-Level session 2026, electives no longer count for science-group FSc equivalence.

3. No F, G, U or grade 1

IBCC doesn't accept these. You need at least E (or 2) in every subject that counts.

4. Apply early

Processing takes 15 to 20 working days, and a Statement of Result is only valid for six months.

IBCC equivalence: common questions

How does IBCC calculate O-Level equivalence?

IBCC turns each O-Level grade into Pakistani marks (A* about 93 to 95, A 85, B 75, C 65, D 55, E 45), adds them up and scales the total to SSC marks out of 900. Students who sat O-Levels in Pakistan need 8 subjects; students who sat abroad, and foreign or dual nationals, need 5.

How is A-Level equivalence calculated by IBCC?

IBCC adds your O-Level marks to the marks for 3 A-Level subjects of your group and scales the result to HSSC marks out of 1100. For O-Levels from session 2026, only the compulsory O-Levels count with the A-Level sciences for the science groups.

What is the IBCC marks value of an A* grade?

It depends on the subject and the session. For 2026, an O-Level A* is 94 (93 for English and Urdu) and an A-Level A* is 94 (95 for Physics, 93 for Computer Science).

What is the 2026 IBCC rule about O-Level electives?

On 17 February 2026 IBCC notified that O-Level electives won't count towards HSSC equivalence for the science groups, for students who complete O-Levels in session 2026 or later.

Is IBCC O-Level equivalence out of 900 or 1100?

IBCC's published examples give O-Level equivalence out of 900 (750 of 800 becomes 844). Your percentage is the same either way, and university calculators use the percentage.

Which grades does IBCC not accept?

F, G or U, or grade 1 on the 9 to 1 scale. You need at least E (or 2) in every subject that counts.

What is the IBCC equivalence fee and how long does it take?

Rs 6,000 per foreign qualification, or Rs 12,000 for an urgent O or A Level case. Normal processing takes 15 to 20 working days.

How long is an IBCC Statement of Result valid?

Six months. After that, IBCC needs your original certificate.
