AKU test and selection process
AKU does not publish a closing merit or cut-off. Every programme uses a two stage process: an application plus the AKU test (or its accepted equivalent), then two independent interviews for shortlisted candidates. Final selection looks at academic record, test, interviews and leadership potential. There are no quotas, reserved seats or admissions against donations.
MBBS test
Multiple choice, based on the Pakistani HSSC curriculum: a science achievement section (physics, chemistry, biology) plus science reasoning and mathematical reasoning. Everyone in Pakistan must take it; no equivalent test is accepted. You also need a valid PMDC MDCAT score.
Arts and Sciences test
The Accuplacer test (English as a Second Language, Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics). You can submit the SAT I instead with at least 600 in each section, taken between February 2025 and February 2027.
Stage two (MBBS)
Shortlisted candidates submit Application Form II, two teacher references and their MDCAT result, then attend two interviews.
Attempts
You can apply to MBBS at most twice. AKU test scores count only in the year you take them.

- For MBBS, A-Level grades must be real A-Level grades: IBCC equivalence, AS levels, SAT II or Advanced Placement do not replace them.

Aga Khan University scholarships and financial assistance
Needs-sensitive aid
Students who are selected but cannot pay can apply. AKU says almost 50% of its students have received financial assistance.
Grant plus loan
Aid is a mix of grant-in-aid and an interest-free student loan. The loan carries a 5% annual administrative charge from the award, and both are repaid after graduation.
Needs-blind selection
Arts and Sciences admission is decided without reference to financial need, so applying for aid does not affect selection.
