NED Aggregate Calculator (Merit Score)
NED Merit Score: 60% entry test + 40% HSC Part-I (or O-Level equivalence). Earlier HSC passes lose 0.91%; Hafiz-e-Quran adds 1.82%.
How NED calculates your Merit Score
NED ranks every applicant on a Merit Score: 60% from the NED entry test and 40% from HSC Part-I (or O-Level or equivalent marks). Matric marks do not count. Students who passed HSC in an earlier year are ranked on the complete HSC result with 0.91% deducted, and Hafiz-e-Quran candidates get 1.82% added to their HSC marks.
Appearing in HSC Part-II this year
Aggregate = (Entry test % × 0.6) + (HSC Part-I % × 0.4)
- 60% NED entry test (out of 100).
- 40% HSC Part-I marks.
Passed HSC in an earlier year
Merit Score = (Entry test % × 0.6) + ((HSC % − 0.91) × 0.4)
- 60% NED entry test.
- 40% complete HSC result, after the 0.91% deduction. The same deduction applies to improvement attempts.
O and A-Level students
Aggregate = (Entry test % × 0.6) + (O-Level % × 0.4)
- 60% NED entry test.
- 40% O-Level marks from your IBCC equivalence.
Which marks to enter
- Entry test: your NED Pre-Admission Entry Test score out of 100. If you took both phases, enter the higher score.
- HSC Part-I: your first year marks and their total, as printed on the mark sheet.
- Passed HSC earlier: pick HSC passed earlier and enter your complete HSC marks out of 1,100.
- O and A Levels: pick O/A Level and enter your O-Level IBCC equivalence marks. No certificate yet? Use the IBCC equivalence calculator.
- Hafiz-e-Quran: tick the box only if you will take NED's Hafiz-e-Quran test with your Sanad.
Worked example: NED Merit Score
| Part | Working | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Entry test 70 / 100 | 70% × 60% | 42.00 |
| HSC Part-I 480 / 550 | 87.27% × 40% | 34.91 |
| NED aggregate | 76.91% | |
In 2026 the first call list for Karachi Board Pre-Engineering / Computer Science, R-1(a), called scores from 95.16 down to 75.71, so 76.91 would have been called on that list. By then the most popular disciplines were already full.
NED merit scores called in 2026
NED does not publish a closing merit for each discipline. Its call lists show the Merit Score of every candidate called, in merit order, and candidates choose a discipline at the interview from the seats still open. For the largest category, Karachi Board Pre-Engineering / Computer Science, R-1(a), with 1,480 seats in 2026:
- First provisional call list (from 23 July 2026): 95.16 down to 75.71.
- Eighth provisional call list (1 September 2026): 60.80 down to 50.22.
Other boards and categories (Hyderabad, Federal Board, A-Level and others) have their own seats and lists, so their scores differ.
NED entry test pattern
The test is computer based multiple choice with four sections of 25 marks, chosen by your HSC group. Every group takes English. Pre-Engineering and DAE students take Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; Pre-Medical students take Biology, Physics and Chemistry; Computer Science students take Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics or Statistics.
You need 50% to qualify. NED holds the test in two phases (in 2026: 12 to 15 June and 6 to 9 July); each attempt has its own fee and the higher score counts. Ties are broken on the test total, then the Mathematics or Biology section, then Physics, then Chemistry or Computer Science.
NED minimum marks
- Engineering, B.Arch and BS Computer Science: 60% in HSC or equivalent. You can apply with 57% in HSC Part-I, but must reach 60% in the final result.
- Other BS programmes: 50% in HSC or equivalent.
- A Sindh domicile is required, except for reserved categories, and your HSC must be from the last three years.
What the NED formula means for you
The entry test is 60% of the Merit Score, so every test mark is worth 0.6 points, more than a full mark in HSC Part-I.
1. Matric does not count
Only HSC Part-I (or O-Level equivalence) and the entry test make up the score.
2. Two test chances
Take both phases if you can. NED keeps your higher score.
3. Earlier passes lose 0.91%
If you passed HSC in an earlier year or improved it, 0.91% comes off your HSC marks.
4. Discipline by merit order
You choose a discipline at the interview, so a higher score gives you more choice.
