How GIKI calculates your merit

GIKI ranks applicants on just two things: the admission test (85%) and Matric or SSC marks (15%). Your FSc marks don't add to the merit score. They only decide whether you are eligible, so the test decides almost everything.

FSc and Matric students

Aggregate = (Test % × 0.85) + (Matric / SSC % × 0.15)

  • 85% GIKI admission test, as a percentage.
  • 15% Matric (SSC).
  • FSc: 60% needed in Maths, Physics and overall for engineering and computing.

O and A-Level students

Aggregate = (Test % × 0.85) + (O-Level % × 0.15)

  • 85% GIKI admission test.
  • 15% O-Level marks from your IBCC equivalence.
  • DAE, IB and US diploma holders: the last completed qualification takes the 15% share.

Which marks to enter

  • Admission test: your result as a percentage.
  • Matric: your SSC marks and total. You don't need to enter FSc marks.
  • O and A Levels: choose O-Level and enter your O-Level IBCC equivalence marks out of 900. No certificate yet? Use the IBCC equivalence calculator.
  • DAE, IB or US diploma: enter your last completed qualification in the Matric row with its own total.

Worked example: GIKI merit for engineering

PartWorkingPoints
Admission test 70 / 10070% × 85%59.50
Matric / SSC 990 / 110090% × 15%13.50
GIKI aggregate73.00%

A 10 point rise in your test percentage adds 8.5 points to your merit. The same rise in Matric adds 1.5.

GIKI closing merit

GIKI does not publish closing merit or cut-off scores. It announces admission test results and offers to selected candidates online through its admission website. Figures on other sites are their own estimates, so we don't show them.

The one published ranking is for scholarships: the top 18 engineering and top 2 management sciences positions in the admission test get fully funded GIK merit scholarships.

GIKI admission test: pattern and centres

Engineering and computing applicants take one test of multiple choice questions on intermediate Physics, Mathematics and English. BS Management Sciences has a separate test of reading, writing and mathematical skills. GIKI publishes a syllabus and sample paper for each.

The test is held at the same time in Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi and Multan, and you choose your centre. In 2026 it ran from 6 to 10 July. You can sit one test or both (Rs 3,500 for one, Rs 5,000 for both).

GIKI aggregate and eligibility by programme

Every BS programme uses the same 85/15 merit formula. Eligibility differs:

  • Engineering: FSc Pre-Engineering or ICS, or Pre-Medical with additional Maths, with at least 60% in Maths, Physics and overall.
  • Computing (AI, CS, Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Engineering): FSc with Maths and Physics, 60% in each and overall.
  • Management Sciences: any FSc group with 60% overall.

There are no quotas, reserved seats or admissions by donation.

Why the GIKI test decides almost everything

With 85% of the merit on the admission test, preparation for the test matters far more than your Matric marks.

1. Two tests, pick one or both

The engineering and computing test covers intermediate Physics, Maths and English. Management sciences has its own paper.

2. FSc is a gate, not a score

You need 60% in FSc Maths, Physics and overall for engineering and computing, but those marks do not add to your merit.

3. No quota seats

GIKI has no quotas, reserved seats or admission by donation. Every seat is filled on this merit score.

4. Scholarships come from the test too

The top 18 engineering and top 2 management test positions get fully funded GIK merit scholarships.

GIKI aggregate: common questions

How is the GIKI merit calculated?

GIKI ranks applicants on 85% admission test and 15% SSC (Matric). O and A-Level students use their O-Level IBCC equivalence for the 15%.

Do FSc marks count in the GIKI merit?

No. FSc marks only decide eligibility: engineering and computing need at least 60% in Maths, Physics and overall, and management sciences needs 60% overall.

What is in the GIKI admission test?

The engineering and computing test has multiple choice questions on intermediate Physics, Mathematics and English. BS Management Sciences has a separate test.

What is the GIKI closing merit?

GIKI doesn't publish closing merit or cut-off scores. Selected candidates are told online through the admission website.

Where is the GIKI test held?

In Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi and Multan, at the same time. You choose your centre.

Can A-Level students apply while awaiting results?

Yes. GIKI admits students awaiting results provisionally. Your O-Level IBCC equivalence carries the 15% share.

Can I apply to GIKI with SAT?

GIKI accepts SAT-II applicants and ranks them by their percentile score.

Enter your test result as a percentage. The calculator shows the merit GIKI's published formula gives; GIKI's own result is final.
