MDCAT Syllabus: Official PDF and Paper Pattern

Find the official MDCAT syllabus PDF, understand the paper pattern and turn subject learning objectives into a study checklist you can actually use.

MDCAT syllabus at a glance

  • Document: PMDC 2025 curriculum, linked by KMU for 2026.
  • Official PDF: Open the KMU-hosted curriculum.
  • Paper: 180 MCQs in 3 hours, with no negative marking in this document.
  • Subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Logical Reasoning.
  • Study task: Match each learning objective to your book, then practise and review.

1. Open the official MDCAT syllabus PDF

Start with the actual document, not a cropped academy poster or a forwarded chapter list. Open the official-hosted PMDC MDCAT curriculum PDF. It contains the paper structure and subject learning objectives in one file.

The cover says 2025. KMU links this PMDC document from its official CAT website under “Download KMUCAT / MDCAT Syllabus 2026”. That is a 2025 document linked by KMU for 2026, not a confirmed 2027 curriculum. For a later test cycle, check the official notice before treating this edition as your final study scope.

Save the PDF with its cover year in the filename. If a friend sends a different version, compare the cover, subject table and official download destination before replacing yours. A newer year typed onto a coaching handout does not change the source document.

2. Understand the paper pattern and subject weightage

The structure on printed page 2 of this curriculum is 180 paper-based MCQs in 3 hours, with no negative marking. The subject split is:

SubjectMCQsWeightage
Biology8145%
Chemistry4525%
Physics3620%
English95%
Logical Reasoning95%
Total180100%

The document specifies a difficulty mix of 15% easy, 70% moderate and 15% difficult. These are its paper-design proportions, not a prediction of how many questions you will personally find easy. A familiar topic can still take time when the wording changes.

It lists minimum passing marks of 55% for medical college admission and 50% for dental college admission. Passing does not guarantee an MBBS or BDS seat. Selection also depends on the admission rules, your aggregate and the competition for your chosen places.

Use the weights to protect Biology revision time, but do not automatically give every subject the same share of your evening. A weak Physics concept may need more work than a Biology topic you can already explain accurately.

3. Find each subject without mixing up page numbers

The PDF viewer counts the cover and contents page. The document’s own printed numbering starts later: printed page 1 is PDF page 3. Use the table below when someone says “Chemistry starts on page 7” and your phone appears to show something else.

Subject sectionPrinted start pagePDF counter
Biology35
Chemistry79
Physics1416
English2022
Logical Reasoning2123

These are subject-section locations, not textbook chapter numbers. Bookmark them in your viewer so you can check an objective while studying instead of scrolling from the cover each time. If you print only selected pages, keep their printed numbers visible. When asking a teacher about a topic, include the subject and objective reference so both of you are looking at the same requirement.

4. What the five subjects actually cover

Biology: The document moves from viruses, biological molecules, cell structure and respiration to coordination, enzymes, evolution and inheritance. It also covers reproduction, support and movement, circulation, immunity, breathing, digestion, homeostasis and health-related biotechnology. Read the outcomes within each unit: knowing a system’s parts is different from explaining how it works.

Chemistry: Scope includes mole calculations and yields, atomic structure, gases, liquids and solids, equilibrium, reaction rates, energetics, electrochemistry and bonding. It extends to periodic trends, transition elements and organic chemistry, including hydrocarbons and several functional groups. Proteins and industrial uses of adhesives, dyes and polymers also appear. Do not prepare only numerical chemistry and leave reactions untouched.

Physics: Look for vectors, motion, work and energy, circular motion, fluid dynamics, waves and thermodynamics. Later sections cover electricity, magnetism, induction, alternating current and electronics, followed by photons, atomic spectra and nuclear physics. The outcomes ask for explanations, graph interpretation and calculations, so memorising a formula sheet alone misses part of the task.

English: This section includes reading for meaning, vocabulary in context, grammar, sentence structure and editing. Examples include agreement, tenses, prepositions, punctuation, voice and reported speech. Practise choosing language that fits a sentence, rather than memorising isolated word pairs only.

Logical Reasoning: Themes include critical thinking, letter and symbol series, deductions, logical problems, courses of action, and cause and effect. Practise deciding what follows from the information supplied. An answer that sounds sensible in everyday life may still require an assumption the question never gives.

This is a short orientation, not the full topic list. Use the PDF’s individual learning outcomes to decide the exact depth of each study task.

5. Turn a learning objective into a useful checklist

A topic heading tells you where to look. A learning objective tells you what you should be able to do. Pay attention to verbs such as compare, explain, calculate and interpret: they call for different kinds of practice.

For example, the Biology section includes how temperature, pH and concentration affect enzyme action. An original study task could be: “Explain why an enzyme reaction behaves differently after a temperature change, then choose the explanation that fits a practice graph.” This is a practice example, not a copied official question or a prediction.

  • Objective: Write the skill in your own words and keep its official reference beside it.
  • Book topic: Record the pages in your own textbook that explain it.
  • Practice: Attempt questions that require that skill without looking at your notes.
  • Review: Explain each mistake and return to the objective after correcting it.

Keep “read” and “can answer” separate. If you recognised the enzyme paragraph but could not explain the graph, the objective still needs practice. Tick it off after you can use the idea, not just after highlighting a page.

6. Match the syllabus to your books and review mistakes

Your FSc board or A-Level book may organise material differently from the PMDC document. Match ideas and required skills, not identical chapter titles. One official unit may use pages from several chapters, while a long textbook chapter may include material beyond a particular objective.

Make a simple sheet with the four checklist headings above. Where an objective is hard to find, search your book index and ask your teacher about that specific point. “Where does this book explain kidney filtration?” is easier to resolve than “Is this whole chapter included?”

Keep a small error log beside your question practice. Record the objective, what went wrong and the correction: a missing concept, wrong unit, overlooked word or calculation slip. Reattempt a similar question later without reading the answer first. This shows whether the correction worked.

Build revision around your mistakes, remaining objectives and available time. There is no fixed miracle timetable here. After school or academy, one properly reviewed practice set can tell you more than another stack of unchecked MCQs. Add mixed practice so you learn to switch between topics instead of relying on the order in your notes.

7. Keep preparation and admission planning separate

If you are choosing between medical entry-test routes, read MDCAT vs NUMS: which test do you need? before borrowing someone else’s preparation list. Use the syllabus issued for the test you will actually sit.

For Punjab-focused admission planning, the MDCAT aggregate calculator can help you explore score scenarios. Treat an estimate as planning help, not a promised closing merit or admission offer.
